Invasion of NaNo

The mission begins.
We're starting with the writing forums and the library, and once those are under control, I think we'll move into the age specific forums and the homeschooling forums.
Recess is last, though of course we are posting there some. It just needs more work than the others.

And we aren't bothering with Roleplaying at all, at the suggestion of Stars. I think she's right -- there isn't much we can do there, and if the people we don't...appreciate (I guess that's the right word)...just stay there, then that doesn't bother us.

Let the invasion begin!

French

I wrote a French essay last night. It's either the longest one or the second longest one I've ever written, and I'm very proud of it. It has to do with two Senate bills that will be introduced next Monday, and they have to do with homeschooling.
Oh, I am so against those bills.
Yet, I managed not to rant in the essay. I just had a lot to say. To tell the truth, I could have said much more than I did. But brevity has to win out at some point, right? So I settled on one page front and back with 2/3 of the front of a second page.

Also on a French note. On Sunday night, my mom went to Border's and bought me two books in French -- Candide by Voltaire and Le tour du monde en quatre-vingt jours (Around the World in 80 Days) by Jules Verne. *excited* I'm not sure which one I'm going to read first...I'm sure Tour du monde is easier to read, but Candide is so short...and it's Voltaire...
My goal is to have them both finished before I go to France this May.

Yes! I'm going to France this May, for sure. *nods* I'm going with my French teacher and some other students; I'm one of four kids who is definitely going, though we could possibly have sixteen people.
Personally, I would prefer if we just had four plus Madame, because I despise group touring -- and that's not an exaggeration. There's no stopping where one wishes, indulging oneself in some random adventure...and such a big group seems clumsy to me. I know Madame has done plenty of trips to France with large groups, but...*shudders* I would survive if there were sixteen of us, but I far prefer the smaller number.
Either way, there will be a week long homestay, which is what my parents are interested in, especially since I've been communicating with my partner (most of the other kids haven't).
I emailed mine last week...still waiting for a reply...but both of us take a while to get around to replying. I know that sometimes I've received an email from her and not replied until two weeks later...(have I mentioned that public school is annoying?)

But I emailed one of the students in France who is taking Spanish, and she hasn't replied at all. And I emailed her a month ago, or maybe it's been longer...*sighs*
So I'm trying to decide if I'll just email someone else on the list SeƱora gave me...*studies ragged list* If I can actually read any of the addresses anymore...I've folded this paper so much it's starting to tear and fade.

Last Academic Team Tournament

Saturday was my last Academic Team tournament of the season, and it was double elimination.

The first game was against a team we had never played. It was really close throughout the game, and at the end of the third quarter, it was still close. The other team got to choose their lightning round subject first, and I don't remember what it was, but I think they were 40 or 50 points ahead of us when we had to choose our subject -- Authors of Children's Lit or Minerals.

Two of the four people had no clue about either one, so John (the captain) and I looked at each other, and I told him to go with Authors.
1st one -- Author of Sleeping Beauty. I know this, but I can't think of it...he's French...he's French...pass.
2nd one -- Author of Dr. Doolittle. Pass, I have no clue.
3rd one -- Beezus and Ramona. OH! Beverly Cleary. That's 10 points...
4th one -- Superfudge. Judy Blume. 20...

I don't even remember the others, though they included C.S. Lewis and Hans Christian Anderson. But after missing the first 2, I got the next 8.
There are only 10 questions in a lightning round.
We won by 30 or 40 points...(and this next part is going to sound extremely vain)...because of me.

*dances* We won a game!
And then we lost the next two games, but they were both really close. Our second game was against a team we had played before, at the beginning of the season. At that time, they had doubled our score. On Saturday, they only beat us by 50 points, and at halftime they were only leading by 30 points.

We got a lot better this year. We're losing our two seniors, who served as our backups all year long, but other than that, the whole team will be back next year, and we're going to try to recruit more.
We'd also like to go to more competitions next year. More people = a greater likelihood of that.

And everybody lettered in Academic Team!
*celebrates*
